In 1985, Optimation Technology, Inc. was officially founded by William Pollock. The projects we started out working on a typically included process or controls design and engineering.
We expanded to 20 employees and moved from rented space on Scottsville Road in Rochester, NY to own building in Rush, NY, south of Rochester.
Optimation carried out its first acquisition by buying a small integration firm in Buffalo, PC Logic, Inc.
Growth continued, and building was expanded from 12,000 to 25,000 square feet. During this same period the company opened offices in Buffalo, Syracuse, Binghamton, Watertown and Albany, NY as well as in Charlotte, NC, to serve wider geographic manufacturing opportunities. Services continued to be process engineering and design as well as automation and control systems. When fabrication or construction was involved these services were subcontracted.
Optimation developed a strategic plan to deal with industry changes. Offices in Charlotte, Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo and Watertown were closed as Optimation recognized the value of relationships with major manufacturing companies on a national rather than a regional basis.
Optimation becomes a founding member and registered Control Systems Integrator Association (CSIA) Best Practices.
Optimation acquired Klug Systems in Rochester, NY, leading our team with glass batch house expertise.
Omnia Technology, LLC joined Optimation to form our Houston, TX office, leading our team's expertise in the Oil & Gas Industry, specializing in test systems, particularly high pressure test.
Dumont Associates, LLC joined Optimation in Nashua, NH to form our Boston office adding systems integration experience and skill diversity to our team.
Optimation acquired the engineering and construction divisions from Eastman Kodak. The addition of engineers, designers and skilled tradespeople gave Optimation the ability to provide turnkey design/build solutions for clients with industrial fabrication and maintenance as well as enhancing design and engineering capabilities.
Leveraging world-class skilled trades services, new opportunities for cross-selling were created that allowed for expansion. Increased shop and fabrication space to meet the increasing demands for these new services.
Optimation added world-class roll-to-roll experimentation and proof-of-concept capabilities by acquiring Kodak’s Web Handling experimental equipment and intellectual property. Located in Rochester, NY, the “Media Conveyance Facility” or MCF also provides web process training seminars.
Recognizing the need to develop younger skilled trades talent, while utilizing the deep experience of the master skilled tradespeople from OIS, Optimation began a formal, New York State certified apprenticeship program, covering five trades.
TSD joined Optimation in Exton, PA was to form the Philadelphia office, adding further systems integration experience with control and information systems services from concept through start-up, with extensive experience serving automation, MES and validation needs, including in the pharmaceutical industry.
Optimation moved its shop location from LaGrange Avenue to a much larger space on Lexington Avenue, to accommodate a growing list of clients needing fabrication services.
Optimation opened offices in Denver and Minneapolis and Dallas, focusing on gas exploration, renewable energy systems as well as medical device applications.
Optimation completed the final consolidation of Rochester-based locations into the Lexington facility, by moving the management offices to a new part of the building, enhancing opportunities for working together while reserving adjacent space for future growth. The Media Conveyance Facility (MCF) also relocated to Optimation Place.
A new office was also opened in Corning, NY to better serve key clients in the Southern Tier.
Owner’s Resource Group (ORG) purchased a majority share in Optimation, opening opportunities for growth and to develop strategically. ORG has the management team continue to lead the firm, maintaining its agile, customer-focused spirit, and will work as a team on high level company initiatives.
The Lexington shop location underwent a layout redesign for efficiency, including customer suites and added security. Remote brick-and-mortar offices in Dallas, Denver, Minneapolis, Houston and Syracuse were closed, opting for virtual offices. Optimation adds high speed assembly machine building and support for design, parts, and troubleshooting maintenance of Kingsbury machines to its list of service.
Optimation maintains its ISO certification and updates to the 9001:2015 standard.
